Tiki Cowboysis the Tropical Rock music project of Eric 'Baron' Behrenfeld. The Tiki Cowboys are based out of Chicago, Illinois and work in the Great Lakes tri-state region all year round.
Musical influences range from country icons like Hank Williams, Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash along with rock-country artists Neil Young and Cowboy Junkies. The island-country sounds of Jimmy Buffet and Kenny Chesney are very inspirational. And, drawing from the classic R&B music of Harry Belefonte, The Drifters and Otis Redding must also be mentioned here for sure! Exotica music by Arthur Lyman, and Martin Denny as well as the Tikiyaki Orchestra and Hawaiian music by Don Ho, IZ and IMUA are favorites. Bongo music by Preston Epps and "Jah-waiian" reggae/island music and spaghetti western music is a HUGE influence as well without saying. And so are the Spy-Jazz-Secret-Agent tunes too. On the Great Lakes coast, not to forget, blues legends Howlin' Wolf, MuddyWaters and Buddy Guy. Add a pinch of Carlos Santana latin rock, a dash of the jam-trance vibe of the Grateful Dead, with a splatter of Pink Floyd and some Ventures surf rock for good measure... And that is kinda what Tiki Cowboys music is all about, long story short!
